Cupping FAQs

  • If you’ve never received cupping before, the initial suction can be a surprising sensation. This will likely feel tight on the skin- like you’re losing a fight with a giant octopus. Or maybe you’re hugging the giant octopus? Either way- this initial tightness should subside within the first minute or so of the cup being adhered to the skin. The cups should feel tight but not pinchy. We can adjust suction after the cups are adhered to the skin so always ask for less suction if you need to!

  • Typically, yes. If we are performing stationary and not sliding cupping you will experience these sinature circular markings. Cupping marks are usually visible in the days/weeks following your treatment but this is heavily dependent on other factors such as your age, activity level, and the rate at which you heal.

  • Cupping works by creating suction on the skin, which draws blood to the surface- promoting circulation. This increased blood flow can help alleviate muscle tension, reduce pain, and improve overall well-being.

  • The frequency of cupping sessions is dependent on your specific health goals, conditions, and general response to the treatment. Some people may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may find occasional treatments sufficient. It's best to discuss your treatment plan with a qualified cupping therapist.

  • Although cupping is a wonderful stand alone therapy, it can be combined with other techniques such as Therapeutic and Sports Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Foot Reflexology, or Craniosacral Therapy as a profondy powerful “icing on the cake”, if you will.

  • Cupping is regarded generally as a safe therapy. However, it is not recommended that you receive cupping if: you are on a blood thinner, you’re pregnant, you have vericose veins, you have a blood disorder, you’re elderly and frail, or if you have certain skin conditions/are sunburnt.
